Through the various twists and turns of life and career, there have been those few constants that provided unwavering support, wisdom, and a shoulder to lean on. Vani, you have been one such guiding star.
We first crossed paths during my tenure at Facebook India. Your ease of navigating between Silicon Valley and India is a masterclass in itself. You are an OG Silicon Valley entrepreneur with a very successful exit. Your shift from operating to investing has shaped the tech ecosystem in India. Your ability to see technology trends, and be bold with your investing thesis is SO inspiring. I have loved the many times I have had the opportunity to cheer for you receiving the “Investor with the Midas touch” award. The number of repeat founders who seek your guidance and investment tells the story in itself.
What blossomed from there was a bond that went beyond professional camaraderie. You are not just a professional colleague, but are a sister to me. When my journey took me back from India to the US, you played a pivotal role in that transition. Your insights were instrumental as I navigated the shift from an operating executive role to investing. As I then transitioned back from investing to being an entrepreneur, you were one of my biggest champions.
We both take our responsibility to pay-it-forward super seriously, and have a ton of fun doing so! We view being on platforms together across Most Powerful Women lists – including the most recent one earlier this year – as a way to accelerate the change we want to see. Our shared experiences as mothers of two beautiful girls gives us additional common ground and a mutual vision to craft a world filled with more opportunities and fewer barriers for the upcoming generation of diverse leaders. Our heartfelt conversations during our walks in Shoreline Park, Mountain View, or over coffee at the Hyatt in Mumbai, were more than catch-ups. They expanded my mind and heart.
Vani, your presence in my life has been a blend of mentorship, friendship, and kinship. Our shared dreams of technology-enabled transformations at massive scale and of leaving a lasting legacy drives us and binds us.
