Grateful for Sheryl 🫶
My introduction to Sheryl came through Prashant Fuloria. At the time, I had relocated to India with Motorola. My husband and I had intended it to be a year and half assignment, but I found myself wanting to play a role in the burgeoning internet narrative in India. Facebook was my lifeline, keeping me connected with friends and loved ones.
It was during this phase that I visited the Bay Area, and set up time to meet with Sheryl via Prashant’s introduction. The meeting in itself felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Our conversation was insightful. Sheryl was interested in my engineering background, especially my journey as a woman in STEM. We explored a few different roles at that time, and decided to keep in touch for the right role.
A year later, Don Faul announced Facebook’s intention of opening an office in India After an intense interview process led by Grady and Don, I had the privilege of joining Facebook as their first employee. This marked the beginning of an extraordinary 8-year journey, with Sheryl's influence being a guiding light throughout.
Facebook has this heartwarming tradition where interview panelists personally reach out when an offer is made. I still vividly remember Sheryl's email and call, where she expressed her excitement to work with me. Her ability to make one feel special in mere seconds is nothing short of magical. She remembers the tiniest details about everyone she meets, making every interaction memorable. I've witnessed her recall interactions from years ago with someone she met during her Google India days, always with a relevant and meaningful anecdote.
The world knows about Sheryl’s impact in building Facebook’s business to the $100B+ business it is today; about the global conversation she has sparked with movements like "Lean In" and "Option B." I am grateful to her for her leadership that is so impactful that many have followed her across different roles and companies. She embodies the ethos of "radical candor". Countless leaders and many global tech CEOs attribute their growth and success to the invaluable feedback Sheryl has given them over the years.
Sheryl, thank you for being such a profound influence in my life. When I am asked about my top three most valuable physical possessions, the signed poster of “What would you do when you weren’t afraid?” that you gave me when I was leaving Facebook is one of those three. I am thrilled to extend my #GratitudeOnChain for you and your beautiful family.
